The Dragon Ball franchise is a hall mark for Fighting Games. Over the years some of the best fighting games have been from the Dragon Ball Z series which include Dragon Ball Tenkaichi Budokai 3 and Dragon Ball Infinite World. In the last couple of years, the formula for new Dragon Ball games had become somewhat repetitive and to add some new life to the series Bandai Namco has partnered up with Arc System Works to bring us Dragon Ball FighterZ which is looking to be what every Dragon Ball and hardcore fighting game fan wanted!
What Dragon Ball FighterZ?
Dragon Ball FighterZ is an upcoming fighting game that makes the most of 2.5D graphics to deliver a fighting game experience that only a few have managed to deliver. Using the iconic characters of the Dragon Ball world both in personality and design, Dragon Ball FighterZ is a competitive fighter with a massive list of moves that’ll appease any hardcore fighting game fan looking for a challenge. From the iconic moves to the snarky remarks, Dragon Ball FighterZ is shaping out to be one of the best Fighting games of the decade.
The androids have returned to the fight, with Android 16, 17 and even android 18 coming back. The trailer speaks of a forbidden story where some evil has befallen the world and shows all are prominent heroes fallen on the ground which would indicate some extremely strong evil force has attacked. There is also a shot of an evil Goku and other characters. It remains to be seen how this story will unfold but we are extremely intrigued.
Dragon Ball FighterZ Combat System
What matters most when it comes to fighting games are the mechanics of the game. Dragon Ball FighterZ takes inspiration from variety of different fighting games especially from other games that were made by Arc System Works which include Guilty Gear and BlazBlue which are incredibly popular titles in the gaming industry. As far as the controls are concerned the game uses a four button combat system, which has 3 buttons assigned for light, medium, and heavy attacks, whereas the fourth button is assigned to launch projectiles. Dragon Ball FighterZ has a massive combination of moves along with guard break abilities, super moves, and crazy air combos!
You control a team of three different fighters that you can change at any time during the fight as well as help you chain combos. Unlike the majority of fighting games in which you feel that if you’ve played with one character you’ve played with them all, Dragon Ball FighterZ boasts that each character has completely different and unique feel to them and a number of distinct simple and more complicated moves.
How Does It Look?
Dragon Ball FighterZ uses the full potential of Arc System Works to deliver a Dragon Ball game that looks absolutely fantastic. From the super attacks to the characters, designs are very much like the source material whereas the graphics have a more animated feel to them making the whole experience feel exceptional. The current roster of playable characters includes the following:
- Goku (SSJ BLUE/GOD/kaioken x10 included)
- Teen Gohan
- Future Trunks
- Majin Buu
- Android 16
- Android 18 & 17
More characters are expected to be added before and after the release as DLC characters. Dragon Ball FighterZ is expected to release sometime in early 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
