The developer of Titanfall from the Respawn Entertainment is working reportedly on a new virtual reality title which is a part of a partnership he has made with Oculus, all this was announced today by both of these companies today. This “first-person combat experience” title is preparing to have a 2019 release.

Bringing The Real War Experience to VR

Respawn Entertainment, which are popular to be known as developers of Titanfall and veterans of the FPS genre, they have stated that there will be a new VR game which is to be released in 2019. This untitled project will take a hit at portraying the bloody brutality of war which will be shown to you from the perspective of a soldier’s eyes, and sounds like a major Oculus exclusive that could end up being the Rift’s killer app answer to Vive’s Fallout 4 exclusive. It is also a possibility that this next-gen game will be powered by the new high-end Oculus Rift headset, codenamed Santa Cruz, which is also possible to be released in 2019.

The video in which the partnership was announced, Respawn stated that intends to “depict being a soldier in combat in a more fully fleshed out and realistic way.

Till now no name has been confirmed for the project, and it is also still unknown that what in what form it will be, but as gathered by the video it is possible that it will be a military shooter like the one for which the company and its Call of Duty-creating founders Vince Zampella and Jason West, are thoroughly popular for.

“A combat experience in VR really gives you the chance to experience life closer to what a soldier would experience in real combat,” Zampella says.

Sticking To What They Know Best

The war setting is definitely a natural fit for the studio, which is mainly created by many former Call of Duty developers. Both of the Titanfall games feature soldiers fighting each other in firefights and mechanized combat. Apart from just news of the upcoming VR project, Respawn has also made an announcement that since May 2016 it is working on a Star Wars game with Electronic Arts, but sadly no more details have been revealed yet. Very recently the parent company of Oculus ‘Facebook’ has also revealed a new and less expensive VR headset, the standalone Oculus Go, along with a more advanced Santa Cruz prototype.

Respawn was founded in 2010 following a bitter dispute among the three; Zampella, West, and Call of Duty owners Activision. Infinity Ward was left to set up Respawn, which released Titanfall in 2014 which was followed by a sequel in 2016.

It was recently made confirm that this will not be a sequel to Titanfall or EA’s previously-announced Star Wars game. Respawn engineer Jon Shiring has also given his opinion about how the studio wants to “depict being a soldier in combat in a more fully fleshed out and realistic way.”

As the quality of virtual reality headsets has been becoming better over time- including the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR – a lot of shooters titles have been seen to be released because of the genre’s good popularity and that VR games are basically supposed to be first-person. However not even a single title has have been so far successful to really blown people away.
