If you’re looking for a horror game that manages to establish an atmosphere of horror from the onset and delivers the most disturbing horror elements that Scorn is definitely worth checking out.
What Is Scorn?
Scorn is an upcoming FPS atmospheric horror game being developed by Developed by Ebb Software, Scorn takes its visual inspiration from the nightmarish designs of H. R. Giger and the paintings of Zdzisław Beksiński. With the creative elements from Ebb Software, all these elements come together to result in a horror game that is equally disturbing to look at as it is to play.
Scorn does rely on some generic FPS mechanics but the overall feel the game seems to be going for is entirely different than anything that’s been done previously. While you will have a chance to shoot monstrosities and enjoy some FPS action the emphasis for the game is clearly on the atmosphere and horror aspects. Everything in Scorn is designed to be unnerving. You’ll be hearing a lot of flesh beating against flesh sounds along with the sounds of hearing them crash against your the anatomical weapon you use. From one look at the trailer, you can tell that the entire environment of the game resembles an exposed brain, muscles and other parts the body as if you were inside of another living creature.
A Disturbing Horror Shooter At Its Finest
Scorn knows the kind of game it wants to be rather than trying to be two different kinds of games at the same time. Rather than trying to juggle FPS shooting elements with Atmospheric horror elements, Scorn sticks to being a horror game through and through. The game looks amazing as far as visuals are concerned making all the flesh and disturbing figure seem more authentic.
The developers are clearly focused on making this as disturbing to play as possible. Even the games Greenlight page on Steam says that Scorn is about being a fish out of water in a strange, unsettling world. “Isolated and lost inside this dream-like world you will explore different interconnected regions in a non-linear fashion. The unsettling environment is a character itself,” studio Ebb Software writes.
Rather than relying on instructional or How-To’s, players will have to rely on the environmental cues to figure out where to go in a non-linear world. Seeing the theme of the game, it makes complete sense for the game to have a hands-off approach rather than guiding players through the whole game. If you’re expecting that you can just shoot your way through the game then you’re wrong. The developers stated that Ammo in game will be scarce and rationing the ammo will play a crucial part in completing the game
Scorn will be a 2 part series with the first part being called the Dasein which is expected to release some time in 2018.
